Character Design and Shape (17/04)

Character Design for my project was relatively easy in that the designs were based off of real life people, meaning I didn’t have to create a character from scratch. I did, however, base their designs around the fact that they’d have to be drawn hundreds of times over and over again.

Angelo colour

Angelo notably has three stripes on his back and three on his tail, these stripes are done in soft triangular shapes, making them easy to replicate over and over. His legs are solid save for his white boxing-glove-like paws, meaning in the scene where Angelo runs on screen, pauses, then runs off, those particular frames are far easier to colour when I only have to focus on his white markings. The face markings are perhaps the most complicated, but that doesn’t particularly mean that even they are hard; two stripes onĀ  the cheeks and three on the forehead are easy to remember without having to lookĀ  for reference, and the lightning-like white marking between his eyes is his defining feature and is hard to forget.

Poppa colour

Poppa follows the character design and shape phenomenon in that his form is made up of many squares. This is to show resilience and strength, they the squares themselves are elongated to add a quiet sense of vulnerability.
